Prof. Dr. Dr. Jose Bernal Moyano

Department Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering (AIBE)

My research revolves around cerebral small vessel disease, a condition that affects the brain’s smallest blood vessels and is a leading cause of stroke and dementia worldwide. I use artificial intelligence to analyse brain scans to understand how the disease progresses and how it affects everyday functioning. These insights are essential for improving early diagnosis and, ultimately, for guiding the development of more effective treatments.

Research Projects

–       Development and validation of artificial intelligence methods for segmenting imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease.

–       Large scale application of artificial intelligence methods to characterise and longitudinally track imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease, and to investigate their origins and clinical implications.
